The loss of our our daughter and sister, Tasha Mitchell, to leiomyosarcoma in her heart, in addition to the loss of our niece and cousin, Meggan Alexander, to osteosarcoma, prompted us to start The Tasha Mitchell O.T.T.E.R.S. Fund.
While the Fund has nothing to do about otters, we wanted to have O.T.T.E.R.S in the name of the Fund because it was Tasha's native animal totem. It stands for Out To Tackle Extremely Rare Sarcomas.
The purpose of the fund is to support patients and their families affected by rare and sarcoma cancers, to help with research on sarcoma cancers and to educate the public about sarcoma cancers. It is our hope to build the fund to be able to assist patients and their families in eliminating some of the financial stresses associated with cancer.
